Bonnetje’s SS25 Collection: A Celebration of Slow Fashion in a Fast-Paced World

In a society driven by speed and constant change, the fashion industry often mirrors this relentless pace. However, Bonnetje’s Spring/Summer 2025 showcase offers a refreshing departure from the norm, highlighting the beauty of slowing down and appreciating the process of dressing. The Copenhagen-based designer duo, known for their innovative approach to fashion, uses this collection to explore how our hurried lifestyles leave imprints on our clothes—and by extension, on ourselves.

Bonnetje’s latest collection captures the essence of garments that have lived through the rush of modern life. The designs reflect the marks and creases of clothes that have been hastily folded, packed, and unpacked, or even worn in unconventional ways—inside out, upside down, or wrapped haphazardly around the body. The result is a series of outfits that embody the chaos of a fast-paced world while also celebrating the art of imperfection.

This collection is not just about reusing old garments; it’s about reimagining how we interact with our wardrobe. Bonnetje repurposes vintage suits, transforming them into new silhouettes that adapt to the wear and tear of everyday life. This approach to fashion extends beyond mere sustainability—it’s a statement against the pressures of keeping up with societal expectations. For those who refuse to conform to the relentless speed of modern life, Bonnetje offers an alternative: a slower, more mindful way of dressing that honors the durability and craft of existing clothes.

While Bonnetje doesn’t claim to have all the answers to the fashion industry’s sustainability challenges, their work sparks an important conversation. Their playful yet thoughtful designs invite us to reconsider our relationship with clothing and the environment.

A standout feature of this showcase is a collaboration with Swedish luxury brand VENCZEL, resulting in three distinctive bags. These bags, based on VENCZEL’s existing models—ÈLAN, VEIRON, and AERA—are crafted from Bonnetje’s upcycled suits. The bags are meticulously constructed using VENCZEL’s signature saddlery techniques, with frames made from surplus leather. The most intricate parts of the suit jackets are layered and arranged to form asymmetrical patterns that follow the natural curves of the bags, creating a striking blend of fashion and function.

About Bonnetje: Recognized by Copenhagen Fashion Week as a brand ‘One to Watch,’ Bonnetje has quickly made a name for itself with its commitment to sustainability and circular fashion. Founded in 2021 by Anna Myntekær and Yoko Maja Hansen, the brand transforms vintage suits into new, gender-fluid silhouettes that challenge traditional fashion norms.

Bonnetje’s journey began in Copenhagen, with the duo’s artistic training leading them to further studies at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam and internships in Paris. With experience at renowned fashion houses like Maison Margiela, Balenciaga, and Cecilie Bahnsen, Myntekær and Hansen honed their skills under the mentorship of industry legends such as Hyun Mi Nielsen and John Galliano.

Today, Bonnetje embodies their shared vision of a fashion industry that values craftsmanship, sustainability, and the stories behind every piece of clothing.
