DAY 2 AT 080 BARCELONA FASHION: WHERE DREAMS BECOME A REALITY FOR FREAKS

Good things come to those who wait, that is why on the second day at 080 Barcelona Fashion we are seeing our dreams come true and twisted narratives are being told. A day where a lot of new voices presented their own world in a concise and persuasive manner, every brand showed their skills and what they can give to a saturated market. In the order of schedule, we could feel that something was building up and became understandable when the last one finished his collection. After a day of color with a space for a muted and controversial presentation, the color and freedom of movement always shine.

After a successful collection presented last year, Guillermo Justicia came back to the runway with a consolidated brand after focusing on its growth all this time. VOID explored the emptiness and desolation of an inhospitable universe. A collection that revolves around the idea of uncertainty, a feeling that is universal at the moment. Across 26 looks, we can see the use of deadstock and unconventional materials in garments where the pattern making is the most special part. Outstanding pieces that use volume as a scapism tool for the shapeless world we live in.

Compte Spain with each collection infuses dreamy ideas into slow fashion as a way to escape from the sobriety of it all. An act where elements of fairytales encounter fashion in a way where the narrative becomes an intrinsic part of the creative process. OBJET TROUVÉ is an ode to the ability of objects to set a turning point, an amazing quality that can be the shuttle to unimaginable places. An array of looks that transport us to a world where bold and modern female silhouettes let people write their own narrative. It is a reinterpretation of the universal symbolism that surrounds these charmed items. Unchanging codes with a visual language imbued with personality and sophistication. A unique spirit that can be reflected in each of the 25 looks, full of details that compose an unforgettable story.

Deeply inspired by cult firms, 404 Studio presented a collection that pays tribute to “Hackers” (1995), a subversive message that is pushed through post-punk aesthetics. Marking its seven year anniversary, the collection is a reflection of their journey as an independent brand and their approach to sustainability by repurposing deadstocks yarns from previous collections, reinforcing their commitment to circularity. Hack the System is an exploration of contrasting textures and silhouettes where an edgy spirit can be found through the nod to 90s fashion and the use of metallic knits. It is a statement that is trying to rewrite the rules that are established by big corporations and shape the future of fashion.

Since beginning in the 80s, Custo Barcelona has been rewriting what it means to be a Spanish brand. In a country where craftsmanship is used to death as a storytelling tool, the brand put emphasis in graphic design where their innovation and audaciousness relies on. LIGHT YEARS provides optimism to the consumer due to his electric colors and uplifting shapes. It goes for over 60 looks with an emphasis on wearability and comfortability. The collection is an ode to the free and spontaneous spirit that loves to wear technological fabric in unusual prints all over it. A little bit hectic in the right way.

Txell Miras

Meritxell Miras is one of the underdogs in 080 Barcelona Fashion, his work stands by itself but there is no press covering it. Hard truth for an industry that just conceives fashion as a capitalistic way to make ends meet. DESTENSANT BASTIDORS is a reflection of the fragile body that everyone has, a look into what it means to be camouflaged by the surrounding environment. Her way of designing is by capricious chance, a route that is used by her to find the rawest expression of fabric. The pieces remain in constant loosening, it is an provoking invitation to understand clothing as something more than just pure objects of consumption. Across 26 looks, she is capable of creating a wardrobe that is defined by the words of Pol Guash.

Ernesto Naranjo

Knowing that the designer was once the right hand of John Galliano, it is easy to understand that every presentation from him is an exciting way to rediscover the world of design. In this case, his fashion language is mixing up with the theatricality and glamour of the Ziegfeld Girls. A 1941 musical drama that interweaves the lives of several young women working as performers that is transferred to a refined and conceptual aesthetic. An array of 30 looks that plays with unexpected volumes, dynamic textures and an ethereal, but grounded, color palette. Each piece is conceived as a work in constant evolution, just as in the movie we can see the sacrifices inherent in the pursuit of fame.
