DAY 4 AT 080 BARCELONA FASHION: SLOW FASHION THAT BREAK THE SYSTEM

080 Barcelona Fashion 35th Edition has come to an end. The last day has been a mixture of emotion, a celebration of the Spanish slow fashion market and a reinterpretation of fashion history. Claiming the international validation they deserve, the Catalonian catwalk became a way of showing the best experimental, but commercial, clothing lines that exist in the peninsular panorama. Spanish craftsmanship is represented with the work of MANÉMANÉ and Habey Club; while visual history lessons are offered by Anel Yaos, Maison Moonsieur and Acromatyx. In the case of Rubearth, their presentation serves as reaffirmation that all the awards they have received are deserved. A well curated mix that had us impatiently waiting from one presentation to the other.

Since 2023, we have not seen a presentation from Anel Yaos and the wait is over with a collection that escapes from dealing with social issues like in previous presentations. MARÍA is his attempt to define what the color white is and how through playing with textures and shades you can express different meanings in the same tonality. It is an ode to essence, fragility and stillness and serves him to rethink his naive and surreal universe. Volumes and layering are a big part of this collection, a maximalist exercise of pattern making with a minimalist approach in the color department. Composed of 22 looks, this proposal is a class of how to do styling to get the most out of each garment.

The creations of Marc Moon can be cataloged as a reinterpretation of fashion history into a contemporary setting. Maison Moonsieur is the brand that he used to find his identity through design, a brand that mixes the elegance of the past with futuristic touches. Conversations that revolve around his attention to detail and his brutalist approach. With LA RUE DES GARÇONNES, the designer is bringing back the concept of Garçonne, androgynous woman of the 20s who reclaim freedom through its masculine fashion. Precise cuts and fabrics meet opaque and translucent textures. A visual dialogue between Camden Town’s masculine tailoring and the feminine audacity in clandestine parties.

Rubearth is a brand founded by Gabriel Nogueiras in 2022 and has been awarded the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Talent twice in a row. Redefining menswear, his creations explore design, art and new technologies. Circularity is one of the big concerns of the brand, that is why they take inspiration out of the evolution of the environments and the memory of materials. THE GREEN FLASH THEORY is his way of exploring the boundary between dream and reality, tropical prints and the spirit of surfing is reinterpreted with a dark and surreal sensuality. Across 26 looks, the brand is pushing its codes to swim beyond the obvious, to discover a new way of seeing fashion.

Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the brand, MANÉMANÉ is presenting a collection that UNFOLLOW THE RULES. The freedom to create without limits is expressed through reinvented silhouettes, challenging proportions and asymmetries that dance to the rhythm of elegant rebellion. A collection composed of 34 looks that deconstruct and rebuild the brand’s codes with a vision that embraces imperfection and celebrates the unconventional. An eclectic attempt to show the most compelling collection to date, an act of courage and authenticity. A tribute to the avant-garde work of Miguel Becer and the whole industry side he has been creating, a celebration of all the creatives that have been born from his studio in Madrid.

Established in slow fashion, Habey Club is a brand that inherently works around craftsmanship, sustainability and responsible production. THE SMALL PRINT is an ode to Vivian Maier, an American street photographer. Her work is a reflection of life that revolves around the routine life of a nomadic, solitary and tremendously hermetic nanny. Structured pieces evolve throughout the collection into ribbons and feathers with the idea of exploring the different sides of the photographer’s life. An array of 28 looks were the brand expanded the vision of the artist into unique pieces created in an artisanal way. Wearability and depuration are adjectives that come to mind when thinking of this collection, a cross point between commertiality and luxury.

Acromatyx is closing this edition of 080 Barcelona Fashion with a collection that explores the definition of black: symbol of timelessness, elegance and purity in design. Since 2021, the work of Xavi García and Franx de Cristal has been focused on creating garments that last over time and embracing imperfect beauty. 007 ESENCIA delves into the roots of Extremadura and distorts it to create garments that express modernity and avant-garde. A mix of mysticism and solemnity can be seen through fitted and stylized silhouettes that are balanced with oversized volumes in unexpected proportions. The deep Spain of the early 20th century is uplifted with a contemporary aesthetic that honour tradition and embrace innovation. The collection is composed of 40 looks that serve as a statement of identity, a tribute to legacy.
