ERL SS25: SOMEWHERE BEYOND THE BEACH
While his vision of fashion is not changing any time soon, Eli Russell Linnetz opted this season to approach only men with a collection full of wardrobe staples. His roots and singular storytelling is still present in a characteristic review of stereotypes in the frat community over the decades (through the lives of Tyler, Jason, Brad and Chad). Also, we can sense an approach focused on functionality, to get over hot days in the West Coast. Because after water polo practices, sometimes the main characters of this story stumble upon mysterious beach parties. They are feeling quite nostalgic about past times, such as freshman year.
Across 23 photographs, the Californian creative is reaching out to pop culture moments of the 2000s to infuse them into garments that are made to embrace the confidence and comfort of the wearer. The storytelling of this collection includes the versatility of the pieces and the use of layering as a technique that can upgrade any look for any occasion that you might find in your days at University. For some, his concept of fashion is always limited due to the repetition of silhouettes and theme. For others, his love for everyday detailed-garments and his understanding of men really get them going. They believe in a future for fashion where meaning and ease are in the center of the design.
We can talked about the references to «The Beach» by Danny Boyle, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, but I prefer to talk about the increase of sex-charged media content that affect the way we think as innate media consumers. How sex is back in fashion mixed with a sense of nostalgia and this collection is a clear example of it. ERL is sharing the vision of relationships between men and how they interacted with each other. All of this shown, by the way he captures their skin and loneliness in a cold studio setting. As much joy as the items can bring to a person, this collection focuses on a reexamination of the knowledge that the creative has been processing by the movies he watched, giving his take on film costuming for jocks.
