FIRST DAY AT 080 BARCELONA FASHION FELT TAME

First day of April and 080 Barcelona Fashion is ready to start the most anticipated event of lately in Spain. This edition upcoming designers are having the possibility to present in the same catwalk as heritage brands do, Barcelona has become the runway to be in and there is an increase in participants from outside Catalonia. After last year, 080 is way more international than any event in the country at the moment, so it is interesting to see how emerging brands navigate this type of public. First day was kind of tame, focusing on commerciality and here you can see extract of thoughts about every collection that was shown:

SIMORRA opened the event with a collection inspired by the Japanese concept of “Ma”, which celebrates the beauty of empty spaces and their ability to spark creativity and reflection. It combines layering, transparencies and volumes to create delicate garments that are balanced between the visible and the suggested. THE SPACE BETWEEN commit to the idea of high aesthetic and meaningful design through 24 looks that developed the elegance of the implicit and the intuited. The design team still uses design as a vehicle for creative expression through the manipulation of materials with a muted color palette with some pop of color, quite daring for the brand.

Next, we had the presentation of EIKÕ AI, a brand that was founded by Gloria Lladó Ferrer with the intention of infusing wardrobe staples with a unique perspective. GARDENER MIST is a collection that describes a hidden and mysterious garden. This proposal combines elements of nature and fantasy through light and sophisticated garments that blend floral and animal prints. The color range mirrors diversity in a garden where we can find neutral tones as well. It is an invitation to take it easy with 28 looks that ensemble an idea of beauty where an ethereal beauty can blossom out of us.

Representing the international knitwear sector, Escorpion presented a collection where soft and warm textures evoked the curves of the landscape, where the structured pieces reinterpreted the artisanal tradition. Tones reflect the connection with nature and with the tradition of the place that Alexander McQueen referenced through his collections, the Highlands of Scotland. Across 28 looks we could discover a punk touch in reference to Vivienne Westwood’s work. Every piece is designed to make an unforgettable impression, defying the conventional and taking the creations of Jessica Raya, the creative director of the brand, to a whole new level.

At 7PM, Maite Casademunt presented the latest addition to the premium line of LOLA CASADEMUNT. A collection that ranges from sophisticated to daring looks inspired by the cold beaches of Normandy. MISTY COAST is an ode to the coasts of northwestern France and across 37 looks we can see a mismatched of textures and colors that propose a sailor-chic feel to the next fall-winter season. We can find through the collection wool tabards with a sparkle of rhinestones, thick knit sailor stripes and the chicest polka dot print. A proposal that felt secured, but, at the same time, all over the place. For me, it takes me to an urban setting rather than a spot in nature.

Lastly, we got excited again with a collection from THE LABEL EDITION, a brand founded by Véronique Vailland von Siebenthal and Laura Johansson with the focus to create clothes that do not overwhelm women’s essence. In this case, the collection explores strength in simplicity and elegance in disruption. It is committed to the precision of the cuts, the power of details and the strength of the materials. An act of audacity without stridency. ROUGE is inspired by the free spirit of rock icons. It is aiming to find a bridge between refined garments with dynamic drapery experiments. Pieces that adapt to any occasion without losing their personality. Some looks are killer, while others are quite plain; but it’s always interesting to see a masterclass of styling.
