The night of glamor and cinematic excellence unfolded in splendor at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles during the 81st edition of the Golden Globes. The witty Jo Koy took the reins as the host, guiding the audience through an evening that recognized achievements on both the big and small screens. This gala, marking the beginning of an exciting awards season, also witnessed a groundbreaking change as the Hollywood Foreign Press Association gave way to the Golden Globe Foundation.

Barbie and Succession shone with nine nominations each, while Oppenheimer closely followed with eight. Other standout films included Killers of the Flower Moon, Poor Things, Past Lives, and The Bear. The night saw the introduction of a new category, Cinematic and Box Office Achievements, honoring the highest-grossing films, ranging from the Barbenheimer monster to the extravagance of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour and the action-packed John Wick: Chapter 4.

The red carpet of the Golden Globes, over the years, has witnessed iconic fashion moments, from Julia Roberts’ striped skirt suit in 1991 to Nicole Kidman’s Gucci peacock feather dress in 2005. This year was no exception, with Jessica Chastain, Rihanna, Hillary Swank, and Emma D’Arcy standing out with their unique fashion choices.

In a historic twist, the list of winners at the 2024 Golden Globes revealed the cinematic gems that emerged victorious. In the Best Motion Picture Drama category, Oppenheimer took home the coveted award, while Lily Gladstone from Killers of the Flower Moon was recognized as the Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama. Poor Things secured the title of Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, and Paul Giamatti from The Holdovers was named Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical, or Comedy.

In the television world, Succession was the queen of the night, winning the award for Best Television Series – Drama, and Sarah Snook received recognition as the Best Actress in a Television Series – Drama. The Bear triumphed as the Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy, while Beef stood out as the Best Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television.

The 2024 Golden Globes also introduced the Cinematic and Box Office Achievements category, where Barbie emerged as the winner, recognizing its impact on the box office. Original songs also had their moment of glory, with «What Was I Made For?» from Barbie winning the Best Original Song in a Motion Picture award.

Cinematic direction was acknowledged with the award going to Christopher Nolan for Oppenheimer, while Cillian Murphy, the star of the same film, won the award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama. Emma Stone was crowned Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for her performance in Poor Things.

With a touch of diversity, the night celebrated international talent, highlighting foreign films like Anatomy of a Fall and Society of the Snow. In the television realm, names like Kieran Culkin, Ayo Edebiri, and Ricky Gervais also stood out with their awards.

The 2024 Golden Globes were not only a recognition of the best in film and television but also a showcase of fashion and a testament to the constant evolution of the entertainment industry. With its rich history and a new era of changes, this edition shone brightly in the constellation of film awards.
