Isabel Sanchis: The Story of a Legend

The dynamic duo is back and more trendy than ever. The fusion between haute couture and streetwear surprises in details such as buckles on the hems of dresses typical of jeans, and bombers executed in complex fabrics. Feathers and volumes everywhere, very Isabel Sanchís for today’s woman. The predominant color is burgundy, which Paula Maiques confesses is her favorite. Although contrasts in light pink and nude stand out, as well as the brand’s classic black.
After so many years, they are still nervous and excited to present the collection, this one in particular because it differs so much from what they are used to designing.

But how did it all start?

Isabel attempts to make a long story short. Since she was a little girl, she couldn’t stop sketching designs in her notebooks. Soon, her talent led her to sell cut-outs of the dresses she drew to all the little girls around her neighborhood.
Being from a small town, a woman was expected to have limited ambitions and focus on her family. She was nothing like that. She worked as a secretary and her fashion sense, having studied dressmaking at the school of arts and crafts, soon took over her days when she took a leave of absence to teach classes. She continued, tailoring for neighbors and friends. She pursued her passion and went on to create her own collection. From there it spread throughout Spain.

The 2008 economic crisis hit, sales plummeted, and they sought to internationalize their business. It was then that Arab investors positioned the brand on the same level as renowned names such as Oscar de la Renta, a recognition that solidified her position among the elite of international fashion.

Paula, her daughter, was suggested by family members to study other branches, in an attempt for her not to end up like Isabel, bringing work home every night. Fortunately for the fashion world, she carried it inside her and couldn’t keep herself from it.

The key to success? Isabel has it,

‘It is perseverance and hard work. Because, if they tell you no, and you really want to and believe in it, you’re going to try. And there will come a time when someone will appreciate you».

Is it easy to succeed in fashion?

Although Isabel and Paula’s story might seem like a direct path to success, they know it’s not that simple. When I ask them about the key to their success, Isabel doesn’t hesitate:

«The key is perseverance and hard work. Because, if they tell you no, and you truly want it and believe in what you’re doing, you’ll keep trying. And eventually, someone will value you for it.»

It’s that relentless passion, that love for what they do, that has allowed them to transcend and remain a reference in the fashion world. Without a doubt, Isabel Sanchis and her legacy, along with Paula’s fresh talent, continue to pave the way for future generations.
