SCRAP WORLD 2025: A NONSTOP MUSICAL AFFAIR
For some people Scrap World is the perfect opportunity to develop their wardrobe by introducing exclusive pieces made for the event or simply pieces from their favorite streetwear brand, but for me, the most important thing that the festival is bringing to Madrid, is the possibility of enjoying your favorite urban artists in a space where fashion and art is celebrated equally. Although we didn’t have a dedicated area for the press (I hope they fix it for future editions, especially to create content for the media without a mobile phone in front of them), it was interesting to reach out to the public to feel their energy from within.
One of the surprises of the event was the sponsor of Atlantic Records, a major American record label known for its rich history and influential role in shaping popular music, especially in the genres of R&B, soul, rock, hip-hop, and pop. During the two days of the event, some of the artists belonging to this label presented their latest releases. Secret showcases and DJ sets in their stand, that could be visioned across every screen of the event, serve to promote the work of Sneaky WH, Albany, Young P, Ibra, Los Del Control and Camin. Also, they did some special activations like Aleesha’s promotion of her third EP “PRETTY BITCH HEARTBREAK” with twelve magnets across the stand for fans to find out in exchange for some gifts. Even this record label is in charge to close the fair in Sala Art with an After Party on Sunday evening that is going to let shine the work of Kinara, Rico Rosa and Klandesitna.
The music lineup for the event was outstanding and thoughtful for the public they catered too. On both days, we could access the creative world of diverse artists in the urban genre that are defining the Spanish market. El Bugg premiered the main stage with the presentation of his “KITIPONES THE MIX TAPE”, a project that revolves around the exaltation of luxury items and hood life. Hits like “Ice No Rosin” and “Swiper no robes” were also played along with the new stuff. He also had a stand with merchandising that was made at the moment via heat press.
Next, it was the time of Raul Clyde that after a sold-out in Palacio Vistalegre, he brought his perspective on reggaeton to Scrap World. A collection of vibrant songs that remind us that the past is infused in every tune we listen to today. “Tuenti”, “CHERRY” or “griselda” got the audience excited, but soon the energy was low, making us just vibe with it. He even showed a snippet of his proposal as a song for the summer “papixulOo”. He also had a stand with “CuatroNueve”, his fashion line that explored merchandising in a more conceptual way, creating a tactile universe inspired by the 2010s.
At 16:30, Metrika called out Zorras Fieles in the middle of nap time in Spain and offered them a satanic ritual. Against Dikys, the message of the whole show was to empower the figure of the female in a music industry that denies them (we can see the behaviour in the lineup itself). Her tunes were well received and even chanted in the front rows of the audience like in her breakout song “Ya t Has Corrido?” or the selection from her EP “El Grimorio”. With the appearance of L0rna (with custom pants by Liza Colors, styled by Arianne Mateos) everyone went crazy and chanted “Lip Combo” and “Driving Brusco” as a Lord’s prayer, seeing female rage focus on entertaining a public that allowed the queer public that assisted to enjoy themselves. It was also the first time that presented in public DIVA DEL INFIERNO, preview of her new album with verses that reflect a stance defiance of established norms and where painting the picture is more important than the story in itself. Accompanying the sharp lyrics of the artist, we could witness two dancers who expelled sex through every pore of their skin, thanks to the choreography that Albert Alcalá created especially for the show of La Madre Fundadora.
But the main musical attraction of the event was Bb trickz. She has been a sensation in the Spanish market since her beginning with snippets on TikToks and the release of “Missionsuicida”. In this streetwear fair, Sony has invested in her through a stand where we could find merchandising of the artist in the form of T-shirts. The space was called “80’z”, just as the new EP that was going to be released on April 9. It was a dreamy space with an electric yellow that transported us to the Mario Bros’ star that she used to present herself in the cover of her debut EP “Trickstar”. Minutes before her arrival to the stage, we could find her giving out signed posters with the cover of the new EP and making sure that everyone was pre-saving it in Spotify. It was a crazy moment where she even shared some Don Julio directly in the mouth of fans and gave out some T-shirts for free. After that, she went straight to the stage, crossing the crowd on the shoulders of his security guard, to perform for half an hour. There she presented her biggest singles to date like “Soy La Más Mala de España” and some songs from her upcoming EP like “Tipz & Trickz”, unreleased and controversial by one of its lines being too sexual, “Not a Pretty Girl” and “Super”. The biggest surprise to me was her styling, the act of mix a cap from Walter Van Beirendonck, a eponymous brand of one of the Antwerp Six, and a zipped hoodie from the latest collection “Besos from Altea” of Hand Over, an emerging brand from Spain that has been exploring the male wardrobe to offer girls the possibility of stop depending on their ex to get the best boxers, you could find their stand in the fair too. Alongside this items, we could see the classic Nike’s Air Force 1, sin estar super guarras; a LV purse from the Yayoi Kusama collaboration, the first luxury item she bought; and a pair of horn-rimmed glasses, that symbolized the new era of the artist.
On Sunday, we had the possibility of getting to know the music world of the Spanish urban male gaze. John Pollõn presented a dynamic fusion of modern urban rhythms with touches of electronica, allowing him to connect with a young and diverse audience. In the case of C Mari, he presented in live his first album “Sempre Cor”, a musical proposal that intertwines elements of alternative pop, R&B and, occasionally, touches of urban indie. At 20:30, we could vibe with the proposal of RVFV, an array of hits that did not leave anyone untouched, like “Mirándote”, “Mi Luz” and “Mami”. He presented a diverse performance that fuses urban music, trap, reggaeton, and flamenco, reflecting the reality of Spanish neighborhoods in its lyrics. Sticky M.A. closed the stage and the festival with an unmatched energy and a crowd that went crazy for every little word he sang. He is presenting his most famous tunes like “TKM” and “Piensa en Mi”, while he chooses to give a lot of meaning to “Sol” with engaging visuals with the lyrics of the song that made everyone go crazy.
But before all of that, at 19:00, Disobey made their appearance on stage after a video presentation of what is going to be their documentary about their rising short career, which is going to be released in January 2026. Bringing the productions of Virtual Flavor to life, inspired by the sounds of the mid 2010s, the collective made sure that the crowd went crazy with every single one of their songs. A well curated setlist that let everyone on stage shine, with singles from “DISOBEY VOL. II” or different hits that everyone has crafted individually. What make special to cybernene, yyy891, roomtrash and 8belial music is that brotherhood can serve as a way to discover your best self and that making sure to have inspiring company can lead you to a great future. Like yyy891 mentioned in his speech, remember that there will always be people who are criticizing you and who will criticize you, but let them be and achieve all your goals. Quality message for a crowd full of young talent that might be lost in what the purpose of their life may be, so it is very important to have groups that through their different approach to music share that message. Every song was chanted by everyone in the fair, but “ENVIDIA” provoked a little wave of energy, a normal reaction to the song that sums up the message of the collective. For me, the highlight was “Orilla” by 8belial and Bad Gyal that infused some femininity in a lineup that felt so male oriented. The vocals and attitude of the performer made the public go crazy and the decision of not cutting the part of the female collaborator made queer people and girls have the most fun time in a day where we could not here any women perform.
